Severance Bridge
Commissioned by the Town of Severance in Northern Colorado, this Bridge was designed and built as part of University of Colorado Denver's graduate-level design/build program, Colorado Building Workshop, in the Spring of 2021 under the guidance of Rick Sommerfeld and Will Koning. Located on the grounds of Severance Community Park, the bridge was needed to in order to access future sports field on the other side of the John Law Ditch. The bridge was constructed from only 3 main materials - CorTen weathering steel, concrete, and locally-sourced beetle-kill pine. The park has fantastic views of the mountains to the east, in particular Longs Peak, which we decided to orient the bridge towards and frame the view as pedestrians and cyclists make their way across to the southeast.
